Clay used in Acoma Pots are kept hidden lest some outsider steal the precious dirt. Acoma clay, when wet, is a blue-gray color But when fired it produces a very white background, which will allow the black designs to show clearly. Some of the more famous Acoma potters come from the Lewis, Chino, Cerno, Torivio, Aragon, Garcia, Antonio, Concho, Vallo, and Sandoval families.
